| This is the closeup of the peghead on my Sandén steel string acoustic. See also the "zero fret" that is Michael's "trade mark". Luthiers have been discussing on "zero fret or not" issue for ages, and it's still going on. I find it a good solution because it gives a very even volume on both open and fretted/baré chords all over the neck. It also gives fine trebles on open strings because they are resting on metal fret instead of on a bone/plastic/micarta or other material the nuts are made of. Then you skip problems with badly adjusted nut, warn-out string slots, etc, etc. But on my other acoustic guitar (STEVENS) I have a regular bone nut, well adjusted and the guitar sounds great. So, make your choice, I've got one of each (a very expencive solution )... |
